Etairnity Basic Care Instructions

Here are quick instructions on how to care for your air plants after receiving them from us:

Soaking: Upon receiving your air plants, soak them in room-temperature water for about 20-30 minutes. You can do this by submerging them in a bowl of water. Make sure the entire plant is submerged.
Exception: For Xerographica or Juncea, limit the soaking time or use a spraying technique, as these plants tend to easily rot if they can't get rid of excess water. Spanish Moss, on the other hand, loves 30-minute baths every week.

Drying: After soaking, shake off any excess water from the air plants. It's crucial to let them dry thoroughly, especially between the leaves. Place them upside down on a towel in a well-ventilated area. Adequate drying helps prevent water from collecting at the base of the leaves.

Light: Air plants thrive in bright, indirect light. Place them in a location with filtered sunlight or artificial light. Avoid exposing them to direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as it can cause leaf burn.

Air Circulation: Adequate air circulation is vital for air plants. Ensure they are placed in a location with good airflow. This helps in the drying process and prevents stagnation.

Watering: After the initial soaking, water your air plants about once a week. Adjust the frequency based on the humidity in your environment. In drier conditions, you may need to water them more frequently. You can water them by soaking them (especially if they can dry up quickly) or by spraying your air plants.

Tips for Later

Fertilizing: Although air plants can survive on nutrients from the air, you can supplement their diet with a diluted, water-soluble fertilizer. Use a bromeliad or air plant fertilizer and apply it once a month during the growing season (spring to early fall).

Temperature: Air plants prefer temperatures between 50°F and 90°F (10°C to 32°C). Protect them from extreme temperatures, especially frost.

Grooming: Trim any dead or dried-up leaves using clean scissors. This helps the plant focus its energy on healthy growth.

Remember, each air plant is unique, and factors such as your environment's humidity and light conditions can influence their care needs. Regular observation and adjustment of care practices will contribute to the well-being of your air plants.
